Levels
These operations form part of the normal maintenance operations required to keep your vehicle in good working order.
Follow the requirements in the Maintenance Guide enclosed with this handbook.
You will find in this Maintenance Guide the standards, references and characteristics of the products to be used dependant on the driving conditions.
Air filter and cabin filter
Have the filters periodically replaced. Depending on the operating environment (e.g. dusty atmosphere), have them replaced twice as often.
12V battery
See “Starting with an assisting battery”.
Engine coolant
The fluid level should be between the marks MIN . and MAX . on the header tank.
Engine hot, wait at least 15 minutes.
Never do anything relating to the cooling system of an engine that is hot.
Engine oil
Check the engine oil level on horizontal ground with the engine having been switched off for at least 15 minutes.
Pull out the manual dipstick.
The level should be between the marks MIN.
and MAX. on the gauge.
It must never exceed the maximum.
Brake fluid
The level of fluid should be between the marks MIN.
and MAX. on the reservoir.
If the warning lamp comes on while you are driving, stop immediately and contact a CITROËN dealer.
Power steering oil or power steering and suspension oil
For topping up, it is necessary to go to a CITROËN dealer
Screen wash and headlamp wash fluid
Use CITROËN-approved products wherever possible.
If opening the bonnet when the engine is hot, even if it is stopped and the
ignition is switched off, remember that the cooling fan may operate at any moment.
Between routine servicing visits, check the level of engine oil frequently as well
as before going on a long journey.
Topping up engine oil
Before filling, pull out the dipstick.
Check the dipstick after filling.
It must never exceed the maximum.
Screw the cap back on and close the bonnet.
Radiator – coolant fluid
Checking the level and topping up with fluid must always be done with the engine cold.
Engine hot
Wait 15 minutes or for the temperature to be lower than 100 and then carefully unscrew the cap so as to allow the pressure to drop, protecting yourself with, say, a cloth.
Topping up the c
The level of coolant 1 should be between the MIN. and MAX. markings on the header tank.
Top up the level. If the top up requires more than 1 litre, contact a CITROËN dealer.
Make sure that the cap is back on properly.
Note: If you need to top up the fluid frequently, this indicates a malfunction which you should get checked at the earliest opportunity.
Remark: The cooling fan may operate for around 10 minutes after the engine has stopped.
